Filter presses are selected by separation duty, not frame size alone. Before purchasing used equipment, define the slurry, solids loading, desired cake moisture, filtration cycle and available operating pressure. These process facts make it possible to assess whether a press can meet your capacity target.

Define the duty before comparing presses

Provide feed slurry analysis, hourly throughput, required cake dryness and any chemical compatibility concerns. Chamber, membrane and recessed-plate presses use different operating approaches. A high-quality request lets the supplier compare usable filtration area, plate size and closing force instead of offering only a broad model category.

Inspect plates, cloths and the hydraulic system

Look for plate cracking, warped sealing surfaces, damaged handles and evidence of leakage. Filter cloths are consumable items, but their condition can indicate how the machine was operated. Check the hydraulic cylinder, pump station, piping, safety interlocks and moving parts. Obtain a closing-and-opening video when an on-site run is possible.

Plan the system around the press

Feed pumps, conditioning tanks, air blow, cloth washing and cake handling affect the actual productivity of a filtration project. Confirm floor space, discharge clearance, power supply and whether the press will be manual, semi-automatic or integrated with controls.
