Used Chemical Reactors: What to Check Before You Buy
A buyer guide to evaluating used chemical reactors, including materials, agitation, heat transfer and export inspection.

A used chemical reactor can offer excellent value, but a sound purchasing decision begins with process compatibility. The nameplate volume is only one part of the evaluation. Media, temperature, pressure, vacuum, agitation and heat-transfer requirements all determine whether the vessel belongs in your plant.
Corrosion, solvent and contamination risk.
Material, pressure and internal surface.
Agitation, heating and cooling.
Controls, records and logistics.
Match metallurgy to the actual chemical service
Confirm the prior application, vessel material, lining or coating, gasket materials and product-contact surfaces. Stainless steel grades, glass lining and special alloys serve different duties; a vessel suitable for one process may be inappropriate for another. Ask for vessel drawings, inspection records and photos of the interior whenever available.
Review agitation and heat transfer together
Evaluate agitator type, motor power, gearbox, shaft sealing and baffle arrangement against your viscosity and mixing objective. Then check the jacket, coil or half-pipe system, working pressure and utility connections. A reactor that is mechanically sound may still need changes if its heat-transfer area or agitator geometry does not fit your batch cycle.
Inspect before export and define modifications clearly
Leak checks, running video, dimensions and electrical cabinet details should be part of the pre-shipment review. If motors, controls or seals need replacement, specify these tasks in writing rather than assuming a standard scope. This creates a cleaner handover when the equipment reaches your destination.
